Can You Become the Master of Your Metabolism? 5 Tips to Fire Up Your Metabolism!

It’s an old adage. As you get older, your metabolism slows down and you begin your inevitable downward spiral of aging weight gain. You have no choice but to succumb to more belly fat, elastic waist bands {yoga pants don’t count}, and colorful Muu Muus.
Right? Wrong. Second to the government telling us that GMOs will have no impact to our health and well-being, this is the biggest load of B.S. I’ve ever heard.
Could you truly become the “Master of Your Metabolism” and quite possibly alter your destiny? I say yes, but before I divulge the 411, let’s talk briefly about what your metabolism is.
In a nutshell, it relates to the various processes within your body that convert food and other substances into energy and other metabolic byproducts used by the body. In less nerdy terms, it’s how fast your body burns calories and it depends on many factors, including genetics {i.e., “those lucky S.O.B.s that eat whatever, whenever and never gain an ounce}), the type of activity we get {or don’t get}, and what we put into our bodies {or lack thereof}.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, here are my 5 tips for resetting your internal furnace so you can keep wearing those skinny jeans {if that’s your thing} well into your AARP membership.

5 Tips to Fire Up Your Metabolism

Can You Become the Master of Your Metabolism? 5 Tips to Fire Up Your Metabolism! www.mixwellness.com #diet #weightloss #metabolism1. Step up your workout

Instead of hopping on the treadmill for the same amount of time, at the same boring intensity, while you catch up on the latest Kardashian gossip {again}, get yourself off of auto-pilot, and kick it up a notch, by incorporating some high intensity interval training {HIIT} into your routine. In addition to the superb late-effect calorie burn, HIIT also boosts your production of human growth hormone {HGH} by up to 450% for up to 24 hours after your workout. HGH is responsible for not only cranking up our metabolism, but also lessens the aging process, making your body a sweet little {and youthful} fat-burning machine. Not sure where to begin? Check out my personal 30 Minute MIX™ HIIT Routine and prepare to BRING IT.

2. Drink more water

The body needs water to process calories. If you are even mildly dehydrated, your metabolism may slow down. In one study, adults who drank eight or more glasses of water a day burned more calories than those who drank four. To stay hydrated, drink a glass of water or before every meal and snack. In addition, try munching on fresh fruits and vegetables, which are full of fluid, rather than processed crap.

3. Don’t skip meals

It might seem like a brilliant strategy to save calories, but believe me, it backfires. Big time. Not only do you end up ravenous and eating way more at your next meal {your body is in survival mode}, your metabolism actually begins to slow down, because that intuitive body of yours channels its inner cave girl, and thinks famine has set in like in the old days, thus sparing your energy and fat stores.

4. Go green

In a small study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, green tea appeared to raise metabolic rates and speed up fat oxidation, as a result of its thermogenic properties. Those who consumed green tea extract had a 4% increase in thermogenesis, with an overall energy expenditure increase of 4.5%. Further research indicates that drinking 2-4 cups may push the body to burn 17% more calories than normal during moderately intense exercise for a short period of time.

5. Eat {the right foods}

This goes hand in hand with the right kind of activity. As with anything else, you put the right fuel into your body, car, or private jet {for the 1% out there reading this}, it will run optimally. You don’t, well you know what happens. But what are “the right” kinds of foods”? Everywhere you turn, someone is touting the latest metabolism-boosting superfood that will change your life {raspberry ketones, anyone?!}. Believe it or not, it’s a relatively simple formula. A formula that I’ve managed to crack the code to and have now become one of those “lucky S.O.B.s” {more or less} as a result.

    Kristen,
Will this program require a detox period? I might consider it does not, you mention not feel deprived, but I’m sure we will be eliminating all the bad stuff. I feel for the most part of eat whole foods but still have wicked cravings for chocolate, will this program get me through this or provide ways I can incorporate a treat once every so often, earned of course. lol

      Hi Cecile,
Great question, and yes – this program isn’t quite as restrictive as the detox, and there is no ‘detox period’ per se, but there will be the temporary elimination of certain foods that make us gain weight and keep it on. It is 100% whole, clean delicious food and animal proteins. Food that will nourish you from the inside out and ELIMINATE those cravings so you are absolutely not deprived. It’s imperative get the things out of your system that are causing those cravings for chocolate, etc. in order to move forward, recharge that metabolism, lose that nagging weight, and keep it off for life. That is what we’ll be doing. YOU must commit to that for a relatively short period or you’ll be a prisoner to those cravings for the rest of your life. It’s a very small sacrifice! :) And yes, I do allow for an earned treat once in a while over the course of the program.

Please let me know if you have any further questions. We’d LOVE for you to join us – we’ve got an amazing groups so far and still growing! :)
