DIY Foaming Hand Soap {With Video Tutorial!}

Those are two things that hold value in my household. Even better when the two come together as they do in this DIY foaming hand soap (keep reading for the recipe). 

Foaming hand soap is SUPER awesome because it gets the job done without using a ton, which can especially be a challenge with kids. I don’t know about you but my girls tend to overdo it on the soap. 

Not only does using less mean buying less, but when you make it yourself it also means less chemicals. As you probably know there are tons of chemicals in commercial personal products like hand soap. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a common culprit used as a foaming agent in products like shampoo, toothpaste, body washes and, you guessed it, hand soap. It may give us those satisfying suds but it’s also a well known skin irritant. Triclosan, an anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, is another ingredient added to hand soaps known to wreak havoc on your body. 

My oldest was getting MAJOR dry and cracked hands from using the nasty commercial soap at school. I mean, those kids are washing their hands ALL.THE.TIME. Not that I’m opposed to cleanliness in that environment – believe me – buuut #allthewashing was killing her skin. So mama bear stepped in, asked the school if I could provide some soap for her classroom, they agreed, and now her teacher is raving about how great it works without wrecking their sweet little hands. And they love the smell. BIG WIN. 

In this foaming hand soap recipe, the key ingredient is Thieves Essential Oil Blend. Now, this is not your ordinary essential oil. It’s a blend of cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus, and clove essential oils that has amazing cleansing properties and helps to support the immune system – something we can ALL use, right? And, it smells so so so so SO good! The key to remember is that not all essential oils are created equal. Quality matters, my friends! This is the only brand of essential oils that I trust with my family’s wellness.

Side note: in my early days of essential oil dabbling, I was a cheapskate and attempted to make my own version of Thieves blend with various off brands of the five oils used in Thieves. What happened? It stained my diffuser. Real Thieves does not do that. This made me question what is REALLY in other brands of essential oils (don’t trust the labels – know thy farmer – the end). Now I just stick with this company and have had no issues.

So, why not skip all the scary ingredients (your body will thank you for kicking them to the curb) and commercial price tag in exchange for this purifying and nourishing DIY foaming hand soap? Ingredients

1. 8 ounce foaming hand soap dispenser (buy here)
2. Unscented Castile soap (buy here)
3. 1 tbsp. Vitamin E oil (buy here)
4. 25 drops Thieves Essential Oil Blend (buy here)
5. Distilled water (buy here)

Instructions

1. Fill ¼ of the dispenser with Castile soap. Add Vitamin E oil and Thieves Essential Oil Blend. Fill remainder with distilled water

Notes

1. To Use:
2. 1-2 pumps of soap as needed and rinse with water.
