Homemade Facial Toner Recipe

Facial toner. What’s that all about anyway? I used to think it was a silly addition to my beauty routine and I’d frequently skip it.

One less step, right?

But then I learned there are quite a few benefits to using facial toner that I could not dispute, including:

  1. ph-balancing to the skin
  2. Detoxification
  3. Pore shrinkage and tightening
  4. Acne reduction
  5. Hydration and nourishment

Who doesn’t want all of that? I sure do!

But the stuff on the market is either loaded with nasty chemicals or so crazy expensive.

There had to be an easier (and cheaper) way to flawless skin, right?

Indeed there was. And I found it. This DIY facial toner costs me less than $1.50 to make (not including the bottle, which if you’re a true greeniac, you’ll re-purpose from something else).

Now, I’m a reformed toner ambassador – and the cool thing – this recipe uses ingredients many of us already have in our kitchens and bathrooms.

It’s especially important to remember that if you’re using a DIY face cleanser made with castile soap like this foaming face cleanser, you want to balance the pH of your skin with apple cider vinegar.

I know it sounds gross, but bear with me.

Apple cider vinegar is like the messiah when it comes to all things natural – it’s a super tonic to keep you healthy during times of low immunity like this, and does all kinds of other cool stuff – including helping you to lose weight!

It also helps to balance the pH of your skin – and as we noted a moment ago, that’s a good thing. Epic win.

Plus, the added benefit of Lavender and Frankincense essential oils – and oh my! Not only does it cut the smell of the apple cider vinegar (’cause let’s face it, that stuff doesn’t smell very good), but these two essential oils are the dynamic duo when it comes natural skin care.

Benefits of Lavender for Skin Health

Frankincense & Lavender #Skin Health BenefitsLavender has been referred to as the “Swiss Army Knife” of essential oils. For good reason. It literally does it all. But for purposes of this awesome homemade loose powder recipe, it glows (literally and figuratively).

Toning: Lavender tones and firms your skin as it boosts circulation, which results in an adequate supply of oxygen and nutrition to the skin cells. This helps to keep cells healthy and boost the renewal process.

Detoxifying: Unless you live in a bubble, environmental toxins and other pollutants that our skin is exposed to on a daily basis are unavoidable. Lavender contains powerful antioxidants that can fight against the harmful effects of pollutants on the skin.

Benefits of Frankincense for Skin Health

Frankincense was valued more than gold in ancient times – for good reason. Besides being amazing for overall wellness, when it comes to skin health, it tones and tightens skin, supports the regeneration of healthy cells while also keeping existing cells and tissues healthy, and supports the skin’s natural response to aging.

Can I get an amen?

Now the thing to remember is this…not all essential oils are created equal. Many that you get in the health food store or Amazon could potentially be cut with synthetics – which is why the prices vary so greatly. This not only sucks because you THINK you’re getting something super awesome (and you’re not), BUT it can also be really dangerous. I’ve heard horror stories (including a very close friend of mine) of people having reactions to essential oils purchased from “reputable” sources.

Like my food, I want to know exactly where my oils are coming from – especially since I’m using them on my children, on my body, and for therapeutic purposes – not just to make my dish soap smell nice. This is the only brand of essential oils that I trust and use with my family. The bonus – I get them at wholesale – a whopping 24% off!

And the good news?

Oregano is one of the most potent and powerful essential oils and has been used for centuries in traditional health practices for its cleansing, immune-boosting properties, and powerful antioxidant properties. In fact, one drop taken daily can help maintain healthy immune function – and it can be taken more frequently when seasonal threats are high or as needed to further support the immune system. In addition to being a popular cooking spice, Oregano also supports healthy digestion and healthy respiratory function.
