Summer is ON and the heat is bearing down like politicians the week before election day. It’s everyone’s favorite time of year to share an ice cold pitcher of tea, head to the beach, or to take that dream family vacation. The opportunities are endless.
With all this fun to be had, it’s easy to let those healthy habits slide that you’ve worked **so hard** to acquire. Are you still trying to drop a few pounds for bathing suit season? It’s never too late! Embrace the heat and get your sweat on with these five summer slimming workouts.
1. Run in the Sun
Running is a great, heart-pumping calorie burn. With the sun at its seasonal peak, working up a sweat is a piece of cake {gluten-free, of course}! You can pick your path, sticking to parks and sidewalks, or diversifying with a warm, sandy beach.
2. Stay Cool in the Pool
Finding ways to cool off in the summer sometimes gets as creative as dunking your head into the depths of your freezer. As appealing as that sounds, nothing beats a good ol’ fashioned dip in a pool. Take your workout to the deep end and throw a few rounds of lengths into your Saturday swim!
3. Get Psyched for Your Bike
Every cyclist knows that the weather can be a real pain in the butt when you’re trying to plan an intense bike ride. Take your bike out for a spin on a hot sunny day, and get away from the hustle and bustle in town to become one with nature. Throw in some hills to really build those muscles and give your heart a healthy boost.
4. Chalk One Up for A Power Walk
If high intensity isn’t your thing, or if you just want a change of pace, take a hike {literally}! Power walks are a great way to get your heart rate going, which can lower your blood pressure while burning calories. You can power walk to the grocery store, power walk to the gym… heck, you can even power walk to your car if that’s your thing.
5. Get Your HIIT On
Short on time? I hear ya – me too. High intensity interval training {HIIT} is a great way to kick your own ass anytime, and anywhere. You can do it in less time and STILL reap the amazing benefits for your body, metabolism, and mind.
In a nutshell, your body never gets bored, so plateaus become a thing of the past. What’s even better is that you can dive straight into it on a hot summer day. Read more about HIIT here and get my personal 30 Minute MIX™ HIIT Routine here.
Outdoor sweat sessions are a great way to help you meet your weight loss goals and maintain your health. Just be sure to stay properly hydrated with all of this sweating going on, drinking plenty of water before, during, and after your workout. It’s never a bad time to get healthy.
