After theeeeee longest winter ever, we hit up the beach for the first time this weekend.
It was GLORIOUS.
But I forgot one minor detail.
The sunscreen.
Don’t go calling DYS, now. The kids were covered with this, but I was not. You know how that goes, right mamas? No big deal – we weren’t there very long.
So when we got home, and put the little one down to snooze for a few hours, I whipped up this DIY after-sun soothing skin spray recipe and this came out of my mouth….
“Ahhh…”
So simple, yet so effective.
The combo is brilliant, if I do say so myself. Lavender essential oil is uber nourishing for the skin and peppermint essential oil is naturally cooling. The dynamic duo of essential oils, aye?
And best of all, it costs .65 cents to refill this bottle. The bottle costs more than the stuff inside it. Can other (potentially toxic) commercial products to soothe sun-kissed skin say that? I don’t think so.
This is where I get my therapeutic-grade essential oils. Quality matters, folks.

- 1-ounce spray bottle {buy here}
- 1½ tsp. pure aloe vera gel {buy here}
- 3 drops Lavender essential oil {buy here}
- 2 drops Peppermint essential oil {buy here}
- Distilled water
- Place aloe vera gel at the bottom of bottle. Add essential oils. Fill with water and shake well.
- Spray on desired area as needed.
P.S., We’ll be making this and 4 other AWESOME DIY personal care products this weekend over at The Silverbrook Farm in Acushnet, MA. If you’re local to Southeastern Massachusetts, grab a spot and join me IN PERSON at this Make & Take class – it will be LOADS of fun and the kick in the a** you need to start making your own personal care products!
