Do you plan your meals?
I mean REAAALY plan your meals. Like sit down, browse through recipes, pick the ones you suspect your lovies won’t feed to the dog, make your shopping list, and execute.
Every. Single. Week?
It’s a great idea in theory — it saves you time, money, and keeps everything organized. But it has to actually happen.
For my fellow busy mamas out there, this task can be daunting. You’re not alone. I’m right there with you, as a full-time working mama, I get it. Especially these days, now that I’ve got a hungry little person attached to my chest for multiple hours each day. I love that, by the way. Wouldn’t give it up for the world. But I’d be lying if I said it didn’t cut into my productivity.
One of the biggest time sucks in my life is planning for and preparing real food for my family. Rarely do I compromise in this area of my life. You could say I’m a total food snob. I won’t hold it against you. I’ll skip showering and other basic human needs if it means I’ve got a healthy, home cooked meal on the table every night. Of course, I do partake in lots of shortcuts, which I divulge in my client programs. I am human after all.

I actually do take the time every week to come up with 4-5 meals (enough for dinners and lunches). I only plan that many meals because normally i make enough for leftovers which help on the random crazy days. I take inspiration from our CSA or whatever else needs to get used up. Because I only can hit the grocery store once for the week, I need to have everything planned out so that I am ready to cook during the week. Because I do have things stored in the freezer and pantry, I need to make sure I am getting to those items. In all honesty, it’s probably a half an hour of planning and it really saves alot of last minute scrambling and buying stuff I won’t use up.
Laura – yes! So critical – saves so much time, energy, and frustration when it’s all laid out for you and DONE! You’re a girl after my own heart! :) Thanks for the comment!
