The 3 Biggest Weight Loss Myths and How You Can Avoid Them

Many busy women would practically sell their soul to learn the secret to creating balance and energy in their lives so they can eat what they want, when they want, without blowing up or falling hard off the wagon.

You’ve already seen it’s a definite possibility. I’ve given you a glimpse into my personal weight loss journey. I’m 25 pounds less than I was in my early 20’s – and have been able to keep it off, despite having 2 children, getting older, AND my routine getting hijacked by the little people in my life almost daily. I don’t count calories, measure fat grams, or obsess over my weight and workout routine.

I’ve helped close to 500 (and counting) women fit back into their skinny clothes, kick their sugar addiction, and feel balanced, confident, and in control of whatever life throws at them. And you’ve heard Renee’s story. Like so many overwhelmed moms wearing way too many hats, she was suffering from the dreaded mid-day energy slump that left her tired and cranky. Once she broke free of her sugar addiction and started eating the right foods, her energy soared and she was able to lose 7 nagging pounds that she could not shake and KEEP THEM OFF, despite a relatively healthy lifestyle.

And after Morgan had her third baby (in less than 5 years), she was able to drop the baby weight within 6 weeks, simply by applying the strategies I had shown her. In short, her body and metabolism were in balance so losing the baby weight and keeping it off was a piece of cake.

It’s possible! But it isn’t easy.

In fact, when I started out. I was completely overwhelmed. The first thing I did was Google, “how to lose weight without depriving myself and keep it off.” And I read SO MANY OPTIONS. And worst of all, just about every one of them told I had to count calories, eat less fat, or up my workout routine. Who has the time or energy for that?

  • Should I do Weight Watchers?
  • Should I drink nothing by protein shakes?
  • And what the heck is The Master Cleanse?

I was lost. My enthusiasm wavered. I knew I had to take action, but would I ever really be able to figure this out?

I want to tell you more about the mistakes I made when I started out. Because there are SO many ways to go wrong when you start to figure out how to lose weight and get in the best shape of your life. And there are plenty of “experts” out there running their mouths and telling you what you want to hear, instead of what actually works.

Here are the 3 pernicious weight loss myths that I see so many people fall victim to — and I want to help you avoid them:

Weight Loss Myth #1: Calorie Counting Works

This one is a doozy.

Calorie counting alone tells you diddly squat about how your body will react to certain foods.  It’s about quality, not quantity. This is why weight loss is not as simple as a strategic formula of calories in and calories out, and why so many struggle to lose weight and keep it off.

Adding insult to injury, counting calories is a big pain in the ass and a source of stress for many. Too much stress will cause an overproduction of the hormones cortisol and adrenaline, which can kill your metabolism and trigger your body to burn proteins instead of fats (resulting in muscle loss, not fat loss).

Don’t get me wrong. Calorie counting works…initially. But once your body realizes what’s happening, it panics, shuts down your fat burning furnace, and begins to hold onto fat for dear life. This happened to me many times. I’d go on a “diet”, cut way back on my calories, drop a few pounds, be stoked, and then gain it right back – even though I was still restricting calories. So not only was I “hangry” (a nasty combination of hungry and angry) because I wasn’t eating enough, my metabolism came to a screeching halt!

Once I realized that obsessively counting calories wasn’t working (and would NEVER work), I broke through and found a weight-loss solution that didn’t just get short-term results. More on that soon…

Another myth I had to get over?

Weight Loss Myth #2: Fat Makes You Fat

This was the pinnacle of the 80’s and 90’s, when low fat, fat free, and completely tasteless food became mainstream. Fat was replaced with chemicals, sugar, and salt, and look where that got us. Eating way too much nutrient-poor, calorie-dense food because we were never satisfied.

Remember SnackWells cookies? How about “Fat Free” frozen yogurt? Or gummy bears? All fat free, loaded with sugar and chemicals, and quite honestly the perfect storm for weight gain.  These were staples in my younger days and you know what I had to show for it? A nice spare tire settled around my mid-section.

Not a good look.

Here’s the science behind it: fat is satiating, meaning it fills you up and leaves you feeling satisfied. This is the feeling that allows you to skip dessert or that extra helping of Mom’s lasagna. When you eat fats as part of your meal, they actually slow down your food absorption so that you can go longer without feeling hungry. However, it’s about eating the right fats, at the right time, and in the right way that makes this phenomena so powerful.

Weight Loss Myth #3: If I work out, I don’t need to worry about what I eat

It is a classic misconception that putting in the hours at the gym entitles you to eat whatever you want. Sure, it sounds like a perfect strategy to have your cake and (literally) eat it too, but the harsh reality is that you can easily out-eat your exercise efforts. Don’t get me wrong, the occasional indulgence is fine – we are human, after all. It’s critical to exercise regularly and eat a diet filled with whole, fresh, unprocessed foods for successful long-term weight-loss, and (more importantly) good health.

I experienced this first hand in my quest for a better physique. To avoid the inevitable holiday weight gain extravaganza, every year right after Thanksgiving, I’d kick up my cardio workout routine a notch – spending up to an HOUR a DAY on the elliptical.

ONE HOUR.

I was insane. I figured I would be able to work off the extra calories I’d be consuming over the month of December and have the chance to catch up on Seinfeld re-runs.

And it initially worked.

But then you know what happened?

My body recalibrated and my metabolism became desensitized to the extra (over) activity. As soon as I scaled back to a more normal workout routine after the holidays, I gained weight. So in essence, I had to either continue working out at the level I had been during the holiday eating season or revert back to Myth #1 (calorie-counting) to maintain my weight.  This was a vicious cycle that left me drained, cranky, and uncomfortable in my own skin.

The good news is that you don’t have to spend countless hours at the gym or on the treadmill.

Most women believe they have to obsessively count calories or eat boring, tasteless food that leaves them hungry and moody in order to lose weight and feel comfortable in their own skin.

Instead, you can eat more and weigh less simply eating the RIGHT combination of delicious foods that reboot your metabolism WITHOUT deprivation. My proven system provides you with the tools, resources, and support you need to avoid falling (and staying off) the wagon and creating a lifetime of success.

You’ll be able to eat whatever you want, whenever you want and STILL lose weight, boost your energy, kick sugar cravings, sleep better, improve digestion, be happier, and eliminate brain fog.

You’re probably thinking… “That sounds good… but methods like these normally require me to give up everything I like to eat and start eating crazy foods I’ve never heard of!”

I hear you. Actually, this is exactly why I’ve personally used this method for years in my everyday life before releasing it into the public, making sure not only that it works but that I can eat well AND still not feel an ounce of deprivation. Since then, over 500 busy women have successfully used my system to give their bodies and metabolism a reboot. I regularly get messages from women — young moms, older moms, non-moms, busy single professionals, empty nesters, and so many others — telling me how they couldn’t believe how great they could feel by doing something so simple.

It’s really quite easy and takes just a bit of planning and preparation to implement and get you on your way to feeling amazing again — in as little as 7 days.

It’s worked for me, it’s worked for hundreds of other women, and it can work for you!

Stay tuned, because next time, I’ll be sharing with you the exact formula I used to eat more and weigh less. Sign up here to have it sent directly in your in box.
